Společnost Activision oznámila, že pod její finanční patronací vzniká v dílnách Stainless Steel Studios další z řady historických realtime strategií Empires: Dawn of the Modern World. Není náhoda, že se vývoje tohoto titulu chopilo zrovna Stainless Stell Studio v čele s Rickem Goodmanem. Tento tým už má totiž na svém kontě jednu veleúspěšnou historickou RTS Empire Earth, navíc Rick Goodman dříve pracoval v Ensemble Studios na Age of Empires. Svým konceptem Empires: Dawn of the Modern World nápadně připomíná právě Empire Earth. Hra bude mapovat období více než 1000 let života na zemi od pravěku až po moderní dobu. Hráč si klasicky na počátku vybere jeden z národů, či civilizaci o kterou se bude starat a cílem není nic menšího než v jedné z několika kategorií získat vůdčí postavení na celém světe. Hlavní předností oproti podobným typům strategií má být velká rozdílnost a odlišnost každé civilizace. Ať už se jedná o zbraně, kulturu, obchod, ekonomiku etc.
